UD Journalism Internships

HOW TO GET CREDIT FOR INTERNSHIPS:

We will give academic credit for internships that are journalism related. You must be doing some sort of reporting, writing, online updating related to journalism. If your internship involves PR, marketing or advertising, please contact Professor Rebecca Worley at rworley@udel.edu

     HOW TO GET CREDIT:

If you are getting English/Journalism credit for completing an internship, you'd think that all you'd have to do was finish the internship right?  Wrong.

Before the internship starts:  Sign up for class and turn in paperwork

      1.  IF  YOU  NEED  ENGLISH/JOUR  CREDIT

*Sign up for JOUR 464 with Professor Fallik. The number of credits is based on the number of hours you are working.

During fall and winter, 12-15 hours a week is three credits.

In summer, 40 hours per session  is three credits.

--- You can take a total of six credits of 469 max.

      2.   IF YOU  HAVE TOO  MANY  ENGLISH  CREDITS

*You can sign up for UNIV 362.  I  must give approval.  This counts as elective credit.

-- You can take a total of six credits of UNIV 362 max.

PAPERWORK

    - All "before internship" paperwork is due the Monday of the last week of the semester.

Here is a link to the application document:

DURING  THE  INTERNSHIP : Keep a weekly blog and collect your clips.

*You must keep a weekly blog and send me the link after the first week.   Tell us what you're doing as part of your internship. Tell us what's easy, what's hard.  Don't get into personal bickering, because this blog will be public.

The idea is that your professors want to know that you're actually doing something worthwhile on your internship.  Also, future students who are looking for internships want to know about the experience.   So write with them in mind, and the fact that your internship coordinator will probably see it as well.

You can create your blog through whatever means you like.  Several people have used Google Blogspot.

Not sure what to write? Here are some examples of UDInternBlogs blogs

       Other recent blogs:

    - WCTC

    - Out and About

    -Out and About2

    - Wilmington News Journal

    - Today Show

       4. Check in with Prof. Fallik once in a while. If I haven't heard from you and see you're not updating your blog, I will stalk you.

WHEN  THE  INTERNSHIP  ENDS: Turn in portfolio and evaluations from you and your mentor.  Due the first week of the next semester.

          * Portfolio:  Nothing fancy, just a cover sheet and three-five clips.

          * Evaluations:  Both you and your mentor must fill out an evaluation.  Here are the links:
